Burkert 8742 Gas Mass Flow Controller (MFC) Measurement Principle: Measurement recording is performed directly in the bypass channel. A laminar flow element in the main channel generates a necessary pressure differential, allowing a small portion of the flow to enter the bypass channel.
A sensor located there directly detects the mass flow rate by temperature difference.
A silicon chip with a membrane is mounted on the inner wall of the bypass duct for measuring flow. This membrane has a heating resistor and two symmetrical temperature sensors (located upstream and downstream, respectively).
By maintaining the heating resistor at a constant temperature, the voltage difference between the two temperature sensors can be used to measure the mass flow rate of the gas flowing through the chip in the bypass channel.
