I. Type Description of the 8745 Model: Suitable for mass flow control of large volumes of gases. The Burkert 8745 model can be configured as MFM or MFC as needed. Four different gases can be calibrated.

The inline thermal sensor located directly in the gas flow achieves a very fast response. A direct-acting Burkert proportional valve as the actuator ensures excellent response sensitivity. An integrated PI controller gives the MFC superior control characteristics.

III. Measurement Principle of the 8745 Model: The sensor operates as a hot-film anemometer in the so-called CTA (Cryogenic Anemometer) mode. In this mode, a resistor with a precise temperature coefficient located directly in the medium flow, along with three other resistors, is connected as a measuring bridge.

The first resistor (RT) in the medium flow measures the fluid temperature, and the second low-ohm resistor (RS) is constantly heated to ensure it maintains a fixed, specified over-temperature relative to the fluid temperature.

The heat flux required for this is a measure of the heat dissipation through the flowing gas and is the primary measurement variable.

Proper flow conditions within the German Burkert MFC mass flow controller, along with calibration using high-value flow standard components, ensure high accuracy in deriving the amount of gas flowing through each unit of time from the primary signal.

V. Electric Specifications of the Burkert Mass Flow Controller (MFC) Model 8745: The 8745 MFC with Burkert electric proportional valves is particularly suitable for applications with high input pressures up to 22 bar or high flow rates (under low pressure loss).

Due to extremely low holding power, these valves can significantly reduce equipment energy consumption. The electric valve is held in its position without flow. The maximum on-time of the motor depends on the ambient temperature.

On-time refers to the motor's on-time, not the equipment's on-time. The motor is only activated when the valve should be moved. Due to frequent changes in ratings, the motor's on-time can increase dramatically.
