Preventing Accidental Tripping

  • Because the motor protection circuit breaker has a phase loss protection function, it is essential to ensure that current flows through all three phases during connection.

Short Circuit Protection

  • In the event of a short circuit, the short-circuit trip unit of the 3RV6/3RV5 circuit breaker can isolate the faulty load feeder from the power supply, thereby preventing further losses.

  • Most models of the 3RV6/3RV5 circuit breakers have a rated ultimate short-circuit breaking capacity of over 50 kA at AC 400 V, offering extremely high short-circuit protection reliability because such high short-circuit currents are rarely encountered. Motor Protection The tripping characteristics of the 3RV60/3RV50 motor protection circuit breakers are primarily designed for protecting three-phase induction motors. The rated current In for motor protection can be adjusted via the setting knob. The short-circuit tripping current is fixed at 13 times the rated current of the motor protection circuit breaker. This ensures that the motor will not trip due to a fault and will receive appropriate protection during startup. If a phase loss or overcurrent occurs due to a phase line fault, the phase loss protection of the motor protection circuit breaker guarantees timely tripping. The design tripping class of the motor protection circuit breaker equipped with a thermal overload trip unit is CLASS 10.

System Protection

  • The 3RV60/3RV50 motor protection circuit breaker, used for motor protection, can also be used for system protection. To prevent premature tripping due to single-phase protection, the protected load must be a three-phase symmetrical load.

Short Circuit Protection for Starting Combinations

  • The 3RV63/3RV53 circuit breaker, in combination with a contactor and overload relay, can be used for short circuit protection of starting combinations.

    Like the motor protection circuit breaker for motor protection, the 3RV63/3RV53 circuit breaker is also equipped with a short-circuit trip unit, whose trip value is fixed at 13 times the rated current of the circuit breaker, without an overload trip unit.

    The circuit breaker will only trip when a short circuit occurs in the feeder. Since the circuit breaker used in the starting combination cannot protect the motor independently and cannot prevent overload, it must be used in conjunction with an overload relay. Transformer Protection
    • When protecting a control transformer on the power supply side, the instantaneous current generated when the transformer is switched on often causes the protection mechanism to trip erroneously.

      Therefore, the short-circuit trip value of the 3RV64/3RV54 circuit breaker used for transformer protection is fixed at 20 times the rated current value, thus it can be used to protect transformers with surge peak currents of 30 times the rated current on the power supply side.

      Control transformers with lower surge currents do not require this type of circuit breaker; the 3RV60/3RV50 motor protection circuit breaker used for motor protection can be used instead.
