Product Overview

Taply tapered roller bearings consist of tapered inner and outer raceways and tapered rollers. Tapered roller bearings can withstand combined loads, i.e., simultaneous radial and axial loads. The extended lines of the raceways converge at the same point on the bearing axis (as shown in the figure below) to achieve true rolling, thus exhibiting low frictional torque during operation. The axial load capacity of tapered roller bearings increases with increasing contact angle α. The contact angle is typically between 10° and 30°, and its size is related to the calculation factor e; the larger the value of e, the larger the contact angle.

Taply tapered roller bearings include:

  • Basic design bearings

  • TQ-Line bearings (model suffix Q)

  • Bearings with flanged outer rings

  • Matched bearings (as shown below): including face-to-face matched bearings with a middle outer ring spacer; back-to-back matched bearings with a middle inner ring and outer ring spacer; and tandem matched bearings with a middle inner ring and outer ring spacer.

  • Low Friction
    Optimized roller design on the flange and flange surface finish (Figure 1) promote the formation of a lubricant film, thereby reducing friction. This also reduces heat generated by friction and flange wear. Furthermore, the bearing can better maintain preload and reduce noise levels during operation.

  • Long Service Life
    The basic design of SKF Explorer bearings optimizes load distribution along the contact surface by optimizing the logarithmic raceway shape of the bearing and crown raceway, reducing stress peaks at the roller ends (Fig. 3), and reducing sensitivity to misalignment and shaft deflection. It features a conventional straight line (Fig. 2).

  • Improved Operational Reliability
    Optimized surface treatment of the roller and raceway contact surfaces facilitates the formation of a hydrodynamic lubricating film.

  • Consistency of Roller Profile and Dimensions
    The rollers integrated into SKF tapered roller bearings are manufactured with such precision that they are almost identical. This provides excellent load distribution to reduce noise and vibration levels and enables more accurate preload.

  • Rigid Bearing Applications A single-row tapered roller bearing typically requires adjustment in conjunction with another tapered roller bearing. Rigid bearing applications can be achieved by applying preload.

  • Run-in Phase with Peak Temperature Reduction Taply tapered roller bearings typically have a run-in period during which conventionally designed tapered roller bearings experience significant friction, leading to wear. This effect is noticeable as a temperature peak (Figure 4). With proper bearing installation and lubrication, using SKF tapered roller bearings can significantly reduce friction, wear, and frictional heat.

  • Separable and Interchangeable
    Depending on the design, tapered roller bearings are separable, and components of bearings of the same size are completely interchangeable. For example, single-row tapered roller bearings are separable (Figure 5), meaning the inner ring (tapered inner ring) with the roller and cage assembly can be installed separately from the outer ring (tapered outer ring). This facilitates installation, disassembly, and maintenance inspection procedures.

The number indicates the contact angle, and the two letters indicate the diameter and width series, respectively. The last three digits indicate the bearing's inner diameter d (mm). In severe cases, this can cause cracks or breakage, so caution is necessary; (3) Use bearing-specific tools: Special tools must be used and cannot be arbitrarily substituted; (4) Prevent bearing rust: Hand sweat can cause rust when handling bearings. Use clean hands, wear gloves, and be aware of corrosive gases.
