• Deep groove ball bearings have a very wide range of applications.
  

• Their simple, non-separable design makes them suitable for high-speed and even extremely high-speed operation, and they are very durable, requiring minimal maintenance.

• Deep groove ball bearings are a widely used type of bearing. Therefore, SKF offers a variety of designs, variations, and sizes of deep groove ball bearings.

• SKF single-row deep groove ball bearings feature a deep groove type with continuous, uninterrupted raceways, providing excellent fit between the raceways and the balls. This allows the bearing to carry both radial and axial loads in both directions.

• There are two main designs: open or sealed (with seals or dust covers).

  
  

Dust cover: Bearings with dust covers are mainly used in applications where the inner ring rotates. The dust cover is installed in the outer ring and does not contact the inner ring, but a very small gap is formed between them. The dust cover is made of stamped steel. For stainless steel bearings, stainless steel dust covers are used.

SKF offers dust covers of different designs depending on the bearing design, series, and size.

• Dust covers with the suffix Z have an extension at the inner diameter, forming a narrow gap with the inner ring shoulder (Fig. a);

• Some dust covers do not have an extension (Fig. b);

• On some stainless steel deep groove ball bearings, the inner diameter of the Z-type dust cover can extend into the inner ring groove (Fig. c);

• Dust covers with the suffix ZS are only used for stainless steel bearings. These dust covers are secured in the outer ring by a retaining ring (Fig. d) and may extend into the inner ring groove.

Note:

• Deep groove ball bearings can withstand misalignment of 10 arc minutes.

• Deep groove ball bearings can withstand axial forces of 1/10-1/5 of the basic radial dynamic load rating.

• When selecting a deep groove ball bearing, the "minimum load required" must be considered. The ball bearing needs to reach 0.01C (basic dynamic load rating).

• If the minimum load cannot be reached, the bearing will slip during operation. Therefore, a larger bearing does not necessarily mean greater reliability or longer lifespan.

Installation Methods:

• Generally, there are two types: cold press mounting and hot mounting.

• Cold mounting: The bearing is installed on the shaft or housing using mechanical force. The basic principle is that the rolling elements should not be subjected to stress during installation to prevent "pseudo-Burlman indentations," which can generate noise during operation.

• Hot mounting: Utilizing the thermal expansion and contraction properties of metal materials, the bearing is heated to a certain temperature before being installed on the shaft. This method is simple and quick, and can achieve a larger interference fit, making it recommended by many bearing manufacturers.
