Product Introduction Overview
Spherical roller bearings have two rows of rollers. The outer ring has a common spherical raceway, and the inner ring has two raceways at an angle to the vertical axis of the bearing (Figure 1). The center of the outer ring spherical raceway is located on the bearing shaft. Therefore, these bearings are self-aligning bearings (Figure 2), insensitive to misalignment between the shaft and the bearing housing, which may be caused by factors such as shaft misalignment. Spherical roller bearings are well-designed to withstand not only high radial loads but also heavy axial loads acting in both directions. (Figure 1) (Figure 2) Bearing performance is not only determined by load or rated speed; many other factors also affect bearing performance. Bearing performance is largely influenced by the following factors: the geometry of the rollers, raceways, and cage; heat treatment during manufacturing; and the surface finish of all contact surfaces. Key factors affecting the performance of SKF spherical roller bearings include, but are not limited to: Symmetrical Rollers: Symmetrical self-aligning rollers (Figure 3) optimize load distribution throughout the roller. This results in lower stress on the roller under all load conditions, thus extending bearing life. Roller Tolerances: SKF spherical roller bearings are manufactured with extremely small tolerances in terms of size and shape. Each roller in the same group is nearly identical in size and shape. This optimizes load distribution on the roller to maximize bearing life. Special Roller Shape: The roller shape determines the stress distribution in the roller/raceway contact area. A special shape makes the load distribution on the roller more uniform, preventing stress peaks at the roller ends and extending bearing life (Figure 4). **(Figure 4)** Between the two rows of rollers are self-guiding rollers and a floating guide ring. The self-guiding rollers reduce friction and the heat generated by friction (Figure 5).
