Attachment: Actuator Sensor Interface (AS-I)

The Actuator Sensor Interface (AS-I) is a communication delivery method – from simple distributed components (such as sensing or switching valves) to control devices (such as PLCs or PCs) via a simple two-wire network.
A flat two-core cable (stock number 242-6189) is a unique feature of the AS-I system, designed for simple, quick connection establishment, ensuring correct polarity at all times.
The cable can be used in networks up to 100m long (up to 300m with repeaters).
Power and data are transmitted through the same cable, significantly reducing the time typically spent connecting sensors and actuators, thus saving on cable requirements and labor.
Selecting the AS-I connection module allows users to standard connect sensors/actuators to the bus and enjoys all the addressing advantages achieved using dedicated sensor/actuator sets.
It can also be used to increase the number of input/output nodes that users would otherwise need to use addressable junction boxes. The connection modules are available in various packages to accommodate up to 4 inputs and 4 outputs. This allows up to 124 inputs and 124 outputs to be connected to a single AS-I network. Another feature of the AS-I system is the way sensors or modules communicate with the host. The communication protocol is designed to ensure high data accuracy and error detection, making ASI systems particularly suitable for automation in noisy and Industrial environments.
