The flat two-core cable (stock number 242-6189) is a unique feature of the AS-I system, designed for simple, quick connection establishment, ensuring correct polarity at all times.
The cable can be used in networks up to 100m (up to 300m with repeaters). Power and data are transmitted through the same cable, reducing the time typically spent connecting sensors and actuators, thus saving on cable requirements and labor. Choosing AS-I connection modules allows users to connect standard sensors/actuators to the bus and enjoys all the addressing advantages achieved using dedicated sensor/actuator sets. It can also be used to increase the number of input/output nodes that would otherwise require addressable junction boxes. Connection modules are available in various packages to accommodate up to 4 inputs and 4 outputs. This allows up to 124 inputs and significantly 124 outputs to be connected to a single AS-I network. Another feature of AS-I systems is the way sensors or modules communicate with the host. The communication protocol is designed to ensure high data accuracy and error detection, making ASI systems particularly suitable for automated operation in noisy and industrial environments.
